Robert E. Waldron papers, 1965-1970.

This collection consists of papers of Rep. Robert E. Waldron of the Michigan House of Representatives. The papers reflect his concern with legislative, state governmental, and fiscal reform, including educational reform. There are also materials relating to his activities as a member of the executive council of the National Conference of State Legislative Leaders and of the National Conference of State Government. The remainder of the collection consists of invitations, press clippings, materials relating to his work with the Republican Party, and copies of House and Senate bills retained by his staff (some bills having pertinent correspondence, clippings, etc. stapled to them). The collection is organized following the arrangement used by his staff, alphabetical by subject, with various arrangements within each folder.

From 1954 to 1970, Robert E. Waldron served in the Michigan House representing the 1st District. He served as majority floor leader (1963-64), minority leader (1965-66, 1969-70) and as Speaker of the House (1967-68). From 1964 until 1966, he worked as Wayne County Republican Party Chairman. Born in Brookline, Mass. on Jan. 25, 1920, he graduated from Dartmouth with a A.B. in 1946 and a LLB. in 1949 from the University of Michigan.
